They are a hybrid of Sarracenia Purpurea and Sarracenia Rubra resulting in pitcher that are a deep red maroon color, grow 8 12 and have dark red fragrant blooms in the spring. Pitcher plants have a solution in the bottom of the pitchers which poisons the bugs that think they are drinking water. The plant then through absorption uses the nutrients from the decomposing bug to feed itself.
