Woven in Subarnapur and Sonepur in western Odisha, it carries a design vocabulary that has remained consistent for generations. Dancing birds. Rudraksha chains. Temple spires in the border. Geometric diamonds across the body. Each motif is built in extra weft individual coloured threads placed by hand, row by row, into the cotton ground. No shortcuts exist in this
