He was a German Cross winner while with the Eisenbahn Pionier Regiment 5 in 1942. You can see him wearing his medal in many of these photos of him on the railroad sites. You can see some great photos of trestles, bridges and a lot of railway construction. This book has 41 photographs, some loose. This would be a fun research
